Visit to the RSPB Reserve on Havergate Island on the Orford River
Saturday March 25th 2006

A stoic party of 10 TARS,  including 3 juniors, braved the first day of spring and a choppy boat ride to Havergate Island, to visit the RSPB reserve most famous for the first breeding of Avocets for 100 years.
Rosemary Garfitt saw her first avocet, and most of us saw birds we had never seen before or at least were not able to identify until taken in hand by John!
We were fascinated by the wildlife, including short-eared owls and March hares from leaving Orford at 10 am and returning at 3.30 pm.
We were under the guidance and expert tutelage of John Smith, one of the Volunteer Wardens to the Reserve.
