COMMANDER WALKER DAY, April 22nd, 2006 17 members of TARS East visited the haunts of Commander Walker when he taught at HMS Ganges, Shotley. We were very warmly welcomed by the volunteer staff at the Ganges Museum in Shotley Marina:- |
We lunched at the Shipwreck: |
Caught the ferry across to Harwich:- |
And were taken on a fascinating tour of historic Harwich by the Vice-Chairman of
the Harwich Society, David Whittle:- |
This included a visit inside the Electric Palace, one of the earliest picture houses
still in use in the UK: |
And a visit in the two man-power crane, still in operation in the 1930s!: |
And were welcomed aboard Nancy Blackett, newly launched from her refit in Woodbridge: |
We watched her beat out of Harwich Harbour against the tide: |












And back on the ferry! |
